FTWW Contributes to BBC Wales & S4C Coverage of Endometriosis

The first week of December 2017 has been a very exciting one for FTWW and endometriosis patients across Wales. Thanks to our on-going work with Welsh Government to improve strategy, our involvement in the new NICE guidelines for the condition, published in September, and the creative efforts of one of our members, Jaimee McCormack, creator of the Cardiff EndoWall, daily news programmes BBC Wales Today and Newyddion 9 on S4C, decided to make endometriosis their featured item on Wednesday 6th December and we were pleased to be asked to contribute! Our CEO, featured in the BBC’s evening bulletins, was invited to…

We Have 500 Members!

It is with great pleasure (tinged with a little sorrow) that we can announce that FTWW: Fair Treatment for the Women of Wales has reached a significant milestone in its relatively short (but highly productive!) existence – over 500 members of the organisation’s online support group! FTWW remains the ONLY Wales-based, patient-led, third sector organisation entirely focused upon girls’ / women’s health equality throughout the region. Despite having NO formal sources of funds, other than the kind donations of supporters, we’re proud to see this group continuing to grow: proud and a little sad that so many women require our…

FTWW Contributes to Endometriosis Priority Setting Workshop

This week, FTWW was pleased to be invited to participate in the final ‘Endometriosis Priority Setting Workshop’ in London, facilitated by the James Lind Alliance. The JLA was originally created to redress the imbalance between scientific, pharmaceutical, and academic research/ers and the needs / interests / priorities of actual patients, carers, and practitioners. It was also set up to help combat some of the conflicts of interest encountered when all clinical research is designed and implemented by pharmaceutical companies. Ultimately, the idea behind the JLA is to establish those research priorities that people with LIVED EXPERIENCE want, as opposed to…

FTWW’s Young Members’ Endo Stories in Wales on Sunday and Wales Online

We are delighted to see our young, brave, FTWW members’ emotional and empowering endometriosis stories being featured in a two page article in Wales on Sunday today, for endometriosis awareness week 2017. This follows on from the amazing coverage they received on Wales Online. Great to see them take control of their care, and getting a positive outcome. “For young women and girls, in particular, it is vital that they feel able to speak up about symptoms, challenge stereotypes and myths, and are sufficiently empowered to seek early diagnosis and effective treatment.” Fantastic to have such prominent, mainstream, endo awareness!…

The future is bright; the future is YELLOW! Endometriosis patients finally being made a priority in Wales and not before time, thank you NHS Wales! On the back of FTWW’s report, ‘Making the Case for Better Endometriosis Treatment in Wales’, Welsh Government and NHS Wales decided that a task and finish group was needed to completely redesign strategy for patients here. The task and finish group comprises the Cardiff specialist endo team; the gynae clinical leads from all the Welsh health boards; a director of nursing; a…

FTWW WON the WCVA award!

FTWW was absolutely thrilled to even have been nominated for this year’s Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) award of ‘Most Admired Organisation’. To then discover that the shortlist and winner would be decided upon by a public vote had us crestfallen – after all, we have only been formally constituted a little over 9 months and, although we are attracting new members almost daily, we felt that we stood little chance against some amazing competition.   Every one of the charities and groups shortlisted is doing fantastic work in the community, and all of them had considerable numbers…
